New Mexico LLC name rules: what your LLC can be called
Last verified: 3 min read

A New Mexico LLC name must include "limited liability company", "limited company", "LLC", "L.L.C.", "LC" or "L.C." (NMSA 1978 § 53-19-3). Beyond that, the name has to be available when the State reviews it. With EXNNA you give us your name and two backups, and we file the first one New Mexico (NM), a U.S. state, accepts.
What must a New Mexico LLC name contain?
One of the six endings the law accepts:
Accepted ending
---
limited liability company
limited company
LLC
L.L.C.
LC
L.C.
Most people use "LLC" at the end: "Example Ventures LLC". Any of the six works.
Why give two backup names?
Because your first choice may already be taken. Availability is decided when the State reviews the filing, so a single name is a gamble.
With two backups on the order, we move straight to the next one if the first can't be used. No back-and-forth, no restart. Pick three names you'd be happy to run the company under, since any of them can end up on the record.
How do you choose a good LLC name?
- Start with the one you want, then add two you'd also use: "Example Ventures LLC", "Example Labs LLC", "Example Holdings LLC".
- Spell it exactly as you want it on the record, punctuation included.
- Keep your own name out of it if privacy matters to you. Nothing requires it.
- Think about the bank. The legal name goes on the Articles, the bank paperwork and the EIN. Using a different brand name day to day is a separate question.
Is the LLC name public in New Mexico?
The company name is. It goes on the Articles of Organization, the filing that creates the company, and anyone can search it. The owners aren't: we sign as organizer and act as your registered agent, and Member and Manager Information reads "None Entered". See what the public record shows for an anonymous LLC.
How does the name get filed?
The order takes about two minutes: a company name, two backups, the number of members and an email. No ID documents are needed. You sign the service agreement online and pay the total in U.S. dollars or in your local currency, where available, by card.
We file the Articles with the first available name on your list, and the State usually approves in 1–3 business days. Here's how long it takes to form an LLC, step by step, and everything about forming a New Mexico LLC. The price is on our pricing.
